Zoos as socially constructed institutions in changing social and territorial contexts

This dissertation deals with research of the zoo as a social construct, which in its history and form represents the development of the relationship between society and nature, or man and animals. At the same time, it is a specific cultural landscape reflecting other changes in paradigms and needs in society. The current form of zoos has always reflected various economic, political, environmental and cultural aspects, or opinion and spatial changes of society. This work is a contribution to the discussion of the application of thematization typical of contemporary experience-oriented society. The aim of the thesis is to characterize the development of zoos and their current form in Europe, where this concept originated at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries, and to discuss regional differences regarding the different geographical context of the post-socialist space. From the geographical point of view, this is a topic rarely addressed so far, both from a theoretical (the zoo as an example of the specific landscape) as well as a regional approach. Zoos within the structure and functioning of European cities

The main topic of this bachelor thesis is a comparison of a Brno city and a Zoo Brno, as representatives of European cities and zoos, regarding their structure, functioning, operation, their mutual influence and cooperation. The thesis deals with certain features that occur in urban and zoo structures and with the demonstration of individual analyses. These include, for example, analyses of planning development documentation, transport infrastructure, management and financing methods, engineering networks, or public space amenities. Evaluation of these analyses will reveal whether zoos and cities have the same, similar or completely different structure. The introductory part of the thesis deals with the origin of zoos, their development, common factors, contexts, and their influence on the structure of many European cities.
ZOO BUILDINGS – HERALDIC ZOO

The main idea of project is to design heraldic zoo in the area of old castle park Horní Hrad, which is located few kilometers next to the Karlovy Vary. Heraldry is science of knowledge of family symbols. Concretely it will be zoo, which will be focused on animals, which can be found on the old czech signs. The idea comes from surrounding relations of dramatic terrain and it's affected by context of the historic monument. Castle is the huge dominant of the all views to the surrounding countryside.
TRANSFORMATION OF THE POST-INDUSTRIAL AREA OF MODETA JIHLAVA

The subject of this bachelor thesis is an urban and architectural study of the transformation of the post-industrial area of Modeta Jihlava into a multifunctional complex in close proximity to the Jihlava Zoo and in connection with the city center. The aim of the urban study is to find a suitable use of the building located in the town of Jihlava. The urban study focuses on integrating the complex into the city's structure, making it more accessible and creating new links between the city and the post-industrial area. The architectural study focuses on defining the new building program of the Modeta for a multifunctional social center for visitors to Jihlava, but also for local residents. Reconstruction respects the character of the complex, using simple materials such as glass, concrete and metal.
Water utilization in ZOO Brno

Study analyses contemporary condition of water distribution in ZOO Brno with respect to environmental defensibility of local flora and fauna. Networks and condition of single water mains has been charted. Possible ways of supplying ZOO with process water has been considered. In the second part study analyses water system, quality of water and its influence on animals kept in exposition Tropical kingdom and in pavilion of arctic wolf and american beaver.

The complex is multifunctional and reconstruction disturb expressive character of buildings and existing structures.
Water utilization in ZOO Brno

The subject of this thesis is make analysis water system in the pavilion of reptiles in the Zoo Brno, with an emphasis on environmental sustainability, local fauna and flora. It is propose specific technical and technological resolutions to reduce the economic and energy performance of the pavilion. The design primarily needed to respect the needs of the animals, but also high aesthetic and educational function of the pavilion.
ZOO DVŮR KRÁLOVÉ - PAVILION OF ENTRY

The goal of the thesis is an architectural study of the main building entrance to the zoo in Dvůr Králové. Building combines functions of cash, various refreshments, sale of souvenirs, art workshops, lecture hall and central toilets. Thanks partly covered outdoor spaces, visitors can use the adjacent sleeping and sitting activities, such as a playground or a safari train. Area meets the criteria for a large number of visitors during the peak season.

The subject of this thesis is an architectural and urbanistic study of the transformation of the textile factory Modeta in Jihlava. The result is the design of a multifunctional social facility and its integration into the so-called Stříbrné údolí (Silver Valley) site and the overall urban structure of Jihlava. The proposal is divided into two main stages in connection with the city’s current needs. The first stage uses existing premises without major construction interventions and investments. The second stage deals with the detailed design of the multifunctional building and the urban design of the site, particularly in relation to the nearby zoological garden.
